2. Protecting The Most Vulnerable: A Post Election Response
This project was initiated as a response to the December, 27 violence that resulted from the disputed presidential election results that left scores of Kenyans dead, millions of property looted/destroyed and over 750,000 people internally displaced. The project’s main objective was to protect the most vulnerable people and targeted the Internally Displaced persons in Mombasa city and the communities especially the informal settlement victims who became sharply divided along tribal lines through political instigation. The project resulted in formation of local peace committees, capacity building on conflict transformation and peace building and provided post trauma psycho-social counseling to the most affected IDPs and perpetrators of the violence leading to forgiveness, resettlement of IDPs back to their estates and linking with humanitarian support organizations for resettlement support and capital to restart businesses for livelihoods.
