To enhance capacity of Coastal communities participate in democratic governance and hold state and non-state actors accountable to the public by 2012
The objective of this program seeks to equip the people at the Coast with the necessary knowledge, information and skills to enable them to demand for compliance to the principles of democratic governance, respect to human rights, and the tenets of human development by public institutions and those in leadership positions in the public sector in their daily activities and explores ways to make the process of governing more transparent, accountable and responsive.
Current Projects:
1. Public Accountability Campaign And Taxation:
This project has taken the form of a campaign following the unanimous decision by Members of to reject payment of Taxes to support the proposed 2008/9 budget. Parliament has since 1999 illegally used public resources to support the welfare of Members of Parliament through the creation of Parliamentary Service Commission Act, 1999 that was created to take care of MPs welfare at the expense of the majority poor people of Kenya.
The purpose of the project is to raise awareness on the role of parliament, and challenge members of parliament to repeal the act and provide for payment of taxes like all other Kenyans, reduce corruptions and promote democratic governance through proper management of devolved funds..... Read More
