| COAST REGIONAL ANTI‐RADICALIZATION MEETING TO BE HELD ON THE
25th AUGUST, 2010 |
Kenya Community Support Centre (KECOSCE) with support from the British High Commission has been
implementing a Coast Youth Mentoring Project in Lamu, Malindi, Mombasa, Kwale and Msambweni districts of the
Coast of Kenya. The project’s purpose is strengthening youth resilience towards radicalisation for peace and
security in the region. Over the past one year the project has created awareness on the negative impact of violent
radicalisation, extremism and developed the capacity of the youth in the above districts to prevent and reject
attempts, theories and narratives by radical extremists. Our key success has been increased awareness on the
negative impact of radicalisation and extremism among young people, increased participation of youth in the
ongoing reforms especially the reforms under Agenda 4 including the ongoing constitutional reforms, reduction in
the number of youth participating in violence and the increase in the number of youth participating in peace
building events in the four districts and participation of young people in policy dialogues with public offices, leaders
and provincial administration. Consultative dialogues with key religious leaders and anti‐radicalization talks
spearheaded by religious experts have facilitated deeper understanding of young people on religious tenets and
enabled them to identify extremist propaganda calculated along religious lines to win the youth to joint violent
radical groups. |
KECOSCE is organizing a regional meeting to bring together about 300 youth drawn from the participating districts,
political leaders, religious leaders, top government officials and diplomats to share information, build partnerships
and develop joint strategies to prevent radicalisation in our region and to address factors and causes of
radicalisation for sustained peace and stability not just in the Coast region but also in Kenya.
|
The event will be held on 25th August, 2010 and plans are underway to invite the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister and H. E.
The British High Commissioner to grace the event and address young people on their respective government’s
policies and programmes to address causes of radicalization and support programmes.........Please Click Here to download pritable version of the Advert |

| FINAL VERSION OF NATIONAL POLICY ON
PEACE BUILDING AND CONFLICT
MANAGEMENT |
The Problem. Whether responding to humanitarian needs or root causes of
conflict, a fundamental problem in Kenya has been lack of an institutional
framework and co-ordinated approach to conflict management. As a result,
most actors engage on ad hoc basis and with interventions that are
reactionary in nature. Lack of norms, values and principles to guide
interventions, has in certain situations exacerbated conflicts. In addition,
sufficient resources have not been mobilized to prevent latent conflicts and
enable rapid response when conflicts occur. The need for a policy framework
that articulates the country’s vision and strategy in this regard is, therefore,
urgent......read more |
